Overview

You can bring your existing subscribers into Cobalt by uploading a CSV file. Imports run in the background, so you can keep working while Cobalt adds your list.

Get Started

1. Go to Subscribers and click Import Subscribers.

2. On Step 1, Template Prep, click Download Template and add your subscribers to the file, one per row. Then click Next.

  • name: The subscriber's name.

  • phone: Their phone number.

  • phone_type: Optional. Enter iphone or android, or leave it blank if you are not sure.

  • email: Their email address.

  • opted in date: When they agreed to receive texts, for example 10-18-2026.

3. On Step 2, Compliance, choose the SMS Provider you collected your list on and the Collection tool, then click Next.

  • SMS Provider: Shopify, Attentive, Postscript, Klaviyo, SMS Bump, Emotive, TxtCart, Omnisend or Other.

  • Collection tool: Popup / Form, Checkout or In Person.

4. On Step 3, Upload, drag your CSV into the box or click to browse. CSV files only, up to 10MB. Check the certification box, then click Submit.

Important: By checking the box, you certify that these subscribers were collected through a compliant opt-in mechanism and that anyone who opted out has been removed from the file.

5. A Subscriber List Import banner shows while Cobalt works, and you can leave the page. When it finishes, it says how many people were added, for example "Added 2 subscribers. 1 was already in your list."

Helpful Information

  • Subscribers already in your list are not changed, and a phone number that appears twice in your file is added once.

  • People with no opted in date show as Pending. They cannot receive messages until they opt in.

Troubleshooting

"2 phone numbers are in an invalid format. Fix them and re-upload - no subscribers were imported." Correct the numbers in your file and import it again. Nothing was added, so upload the whole file again.

"We couldn't finish this import. Check the file and try again." Upload the file again. If it keeps failing, contact support.
