Overview

Cobalt turns every link in your campaign and flow messages into a short link and counts each tap as a click. When someone taps, Cobalt adds tracking parameters (UTM tags) to your website address, so your website analytics can show the visit came from Cobalt.

Get Started

1. Go to Account Settings > Messaging and find Link tracking. Each row is one parameter, with a Campaign value for links in campaigns and a Flow value for links in flows:

  • utm_medium: The message type, such as sms or mms.

  • utm_source: cobalt.

  • utm_campaign: The name of the campaign or flow that sent the link.

2. To add your own, click Add a custom parameter, then fill in the Parameter, Campaign value and Flow value.

  • Use fixed text, or {message-type}, {campaign-name} or {flow-name}.

    • For example: utm_content with the value spring-sale.

3. Click Save changes. You see "Messaging settings updated."

To remove a custom parameter, click the X at the end of its row, then save. The three default rows cannot be removed.

What happens next

Cobalt adds your parameters when a subscriber taps a link, using the settings saved at that moment. A change therefore also applies to links in messages you already sent. Clicks show as Clicked on the campaign page, and a subscriber counts once however many times they tap.

Helpful Information

  • If your link already has a parameter, such as utm_source, Cobalt keeps yours and does not add its own.

  • A parameter with no value is left off the link.

  • Parameter names can be up to 100 characters and values up to 255.

Troubleshooting

"The link_tracking_parameters.3.parameter field is required." The number depends on the row. A custom row has no Parameter name. Type a name, or click the X to remove the row.
