Overview
A keyword is a word someone can text to your number. When they do, Cobalt sends back the auto response you wrote and adds them to the segments you choose. A keyword does not subscribe the person who texts it. The JOIN keyword, which every account already has, is the one that does.
Get Started
1. Go to Tools > Keywords and click Create Keyword.
2. Under Keyword details, fill in:
Keyword: The word people text. Use one word with no spaces.
Description: A note for your team. Subscribers never see it.
Auto Response: The text Cobalt sends back. It can be up to 640 characters.
3. Under Subscribe to segments, choose at least one segment. Everyone who texts the keyword is added to the segments you choose.
4. Click Create Keyword.
5. Check that your keyword shows Enabled in the list.
What happens next
When someone texts the keyword to your number, they receive your Auto Response and are added to the segments you chose. Cobalt matches the whole message, so the keyword must be the only word in the text.
Helpful Information
JOIN is already in your list. It cannot be edited, disabled or deleted.
Keywords are not case sensitive, so "JOIN" and "join" count as the same keyword. If you reuse one, you see "This keyword is already in use."
You cannot use STOP, HELP or the other opt-out words such as UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, QUIT and END. You see "This specific keyword cannot be added, as the carrier has it's own auto-response."
Choose manual segments. A dynamic segment fills itself from its rules, so a keyword cannot add someone to it.
To change a keyword later, click its name, or click the three dots on its row and choose Edit, Disable or Delete. A disabled keyword no longer replies.
