Overview
When a subscriber texts STOP, Cobalt opts them out right away and sends them one confirmation. They stop receiving your messages, and they stay opted out until they text JOIN themselves. This works the same over SMS and iMessage.
What Cobalt does
Profile: The subscriber shows as Opted out. In the Subscriptions tab, the SMS row says "Replied STOP".
Messages: They no longer receive campaigns or flow messages, and any flow they are in stops.
Confirmation: Cobalt replies "Your business name: You have been unsubscribed and will receive no further messages." You cannot edit this reply.
Conversations: A STOP does not open a conversation, so you will not see it in your inbox.
Which words count
STOP, STOPALL, STOP ALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, OPT OUT, OPTOUT, REVOKE, CANCEL, END and QUIT all opt a subscriber out. Common phrases count too, such as "stop texting me", "please stop", "remove me" and "take me off". Capital letters and punctuation do not matter, so "Stop." works.
A message that only starts with one of these words, such as "Stop by tomorrow?", does not opt anyone out. It goes to Conversations marked "Possible opt-out request. Review before replying", and Cobalt sends no automatic reply until your team has read it.
How a subscriber rejoins
Only the subscriber can opt back in, by texting JOIN to your number. You cannot resubscribe someone who texted STOP.
Helpful Information
A subscriber who texts STOP again after opting out does not get a second confirmation.
