Overview
Each way of signing up has its own confirmation step, and Cobalt saves a record of every opt-in. The opt-in wording is fixed and you cannot edit it. Cobalt fills in your business name and links to your own Terms and Privacy Policy.
How each sign-up method confirms consent
Web forms: The form shows the opt-in wording. The person enters their phone number, then types the 6-digit code Cobalt texts them.
JOIN keyword: The person texts JOIN to your number, for example from a tap-to-join link or a QR code. Cobalt subscribes them.
API and Klaviyo: For new people, Cobalt texts "Reply Y to subscribe to recurring automated marketing msgs". They become subscribers only when they reply Y or YES.
Subscriber imports: You click a certification checkbox that the people in your file were collected through a compliant opt-in mechanism and that anyone who opted out has been removed.
On a subscriber's profile, Opt-in source shows which method they used.
Get Started
1. Go to Settings > Phone Numbers and find TCPA Compliant Opt-In Messaging.
2. Click the copy button at the top right of the text, then paste it wherever you collect subscribers outside Cobalt. The copied text includes your Terms and Privacy Policy links.
Shopify stores: Popups show the same wording, and the shopper texts JOIN to finish. At checkout, the shopper checks the Cobalt SMS opt-in box and types back a code Cobalt texts them. People who opt in through Shopify's own forms are added with Shopify's consent details, with Opt-in source Shopify Native Opt-in.
